Pest Control and Exterminator Service in Lower Merion Township, PA

Stone and stucco houses on shaded, wooded lots define much of Lower Merion Township, and they raise different pest questions than newer suburbs do. No Bugs Exterminator offers pest control across the whole township from our base in Media, roughly 25 minutes (12 miles) away. Calls here run from carpenter ants on Gladwyne hillsides to mice in Penn Valley basements and termites in old Bryn Mawr porches. Thom and his team start each job with a free inspection and a clear written quote.

Fieldstone Foundations, Mature Oaks and the Mill Creek Ravines

Census (ACS) estimates place the median home at 1955, many far older, and only about a quarter of households rent. Fieldstone foundations and generations of additions leave mortar gaps that mice find each fall.

Tall trees keep trim and sills damp, which suits carpenter ants and subterranean termites. Wooded ravines along Mill Creek also bring deer and ticks close to yards.

The Main Line built out in waves: Victorian and early-1900s stone houses near the train stations, 1920s twins and brick colonials in Ardmore and Bala Cynwyd, and post-war ranches and colonials in Penn Valley and along the outer Gladwyne roads. Older houses tend to have slate roofs, deep eaves and walk-up attics roomy enough for squirrels and mice to nest out of sight. Basements finished in later decades often hide the stone walls behind paneling and drywall, so termite tubes can climb unseen.

Steep lots that fall toward Mill Creek and the Schuylkill keep soil wet on the downhill side of many foundations. Stink bugs and boxelder bugs crowd onto sunny stucco in September, and yellow jackets nest under the ivy and pachysandra beds common on older properties.

Working Around Narberth, Ardmore and Bryn Mawr

The township wraps around Narberth and shares Ardmore with Haverford Township, so we often work both sides of those lines in one week. Bryn Mawr has its own page. With about 64,000 residents, Lower Merion runs from City Avenue at the Philadelphia line out past Bryn Mawr toward Villanova, with the Schuylkill River and the Schuylkill Expressway along its northern edge. SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale Line stops at a string of stations from Merion to Villanova, and much of the oldest housing clusters within walking distance of them. Bryn Mawr College and Lankenau Medical Center anchor the institutional side, and Lower Merion and Harriton high schools serve the Lower Merion School District. In Gladwyne, Rolling Hill Park follows Mill Creek and the Riverbend Environmental Education Center protects woods near the river, which is why tick and carpenter ant work runs heavier there than near the avenues.

Questions from Lower Merion Township homeowners

Can you check for termites before we buy a Lower Merion house?

Yes. A free inspection covers the foundation, sills, porches and basement framing where termites show first. Many Main Line sales also call for a formal WDI inspection report, and we will tell you on the call whether we can provide the one your lender wants.

Why do mice keep getting into our stone house every October?

Old fieldstone walls lose mortar over time, leaving dime-sized gaps that mice squeeze through once nights get cold. Traps only remove the mice already inside. We seal gaps around pipes, sills and window wells, then set monitors so you can confirm activity has stopped.
